#MTFResearch Symposium

Welcome to the #MTFResearch Symposium at Music Tech Fest Stockholm in association with KTH Royal Institute of Technology.

#MTFResearch is a global interdisciplinary network of academics and researchers from the sciences and humanities. The symposium is a place to connect, initiate and develop new research projects at the intersection of music and technology. The symposium brings together brilliant minds from around the world to seed discussions that connect those diverse areas of study and explores new potential collaborations.

We’re thrilled that the brilliant Nancy Baym of Microsoft Research will be joining us as the leader of the symposium. She will give an opening keynote in addition to launching her new book ‘Playing to the Crowd’ (NYU Press). A pioneer in the field of internet research, Nancy is a Principal Researcher at Microsoft in New England and Research Affiliate in Comparative Media Studies and Writing at MIT. Her work reveals the subtle and pervasive ways people make sense of new communication technologies and weave them into their everyday lives. Read more about Nancy here.

The #MTFResearch Symposium format provides space for researchers from all disciplines to present and discuss their work, engage with world-leading researchers and explore opportunities for new collaborative projects.

The Symposium ticket includes full membership of the global #MTFResearch Network, free entry to the public Music Tech Fest Stockholm event and a Music Tech Fest t-shirt. GET YOUR TICKET HERE.

The Symposium begins at 12:00 on Thursday 6th September and ends at 12:00 on Friday 7th September. MTF Stockholm begins on Friday afternoon and runs until late Sunday 9th September. Symposium attendees may also apply to have their work showcased, performed or demonstrated at the public festival.

The programme over the two days will include guest speakers and wide-ranging discussion on a range of interdisciplinary and cutting-edge topics:

- AI
- Human Music Interaction
- Radical Inclusion
- Curated Music Exhibitions and Digital Archives
- Music Rights and Blockchain

Tickets are limited to just 100 places.

The symposium is based on the principles of the Manifesto for the Future of Music Technology Research (or ‘Musictechifesto’) - written at the first #MTFResearch Symposium at Microsoft NERD Labs in Cambridge, MA in 2014.

UPDATE: We have just secured a fantastic deal for #MTFResearch symposium attendees to stay in absolute luxury at the Radisson Blu Royal Park Hotel for around half the normal price. Here’s the direct link to that deal. Make sure you book early!
