The hospital soundscape can harm people. The cacophony of timbres and tones creates a confusing environment that affects how nurses and physicians navigate within this space. Alarm fatigue, a condition attributed to physicians working in loud environments, may preclude a doctor from responding to a life or death signal. Combating alarm fatigue has been named a 2016 Patient Safety goal by the Joint Commission. Healing Soundscapes presents physical spaces that doctors can navigate without succumbing to fatigue. Rather than proposing specific interventions to existing hospital soundscapes, this performance suggests how physicians might listen and move in the hospitals of the future.
