NEW FORMATS FOR MUSIC
29th - 31st May 2015, Umeå

We’re landing in Sweden - the world’s biggest exporter of music per capita - for a Music Tech Fest Scandinavia.

63 degrees North, in the land of the Northern Lights and the Midnight Sun, Umeå is a thriving university town with an open mind, high calibre thinkers, several globally successful companies, and an amazing playground for innovation.

It’s the perfect location to invent whole new formats for music - and we’re gathering the best minds able to transform this new media landscape.

A long weekend holiday in northern Sweden at the end of May is highly recommended. Not only do you get to hang out in perpetual sunshine, which merely dips below the horizon for a couple of hours around midnight, but you also get to drink cocktails mixed by one of the top mixers in the world, and stay in one of the coolest new projects by Snøhetta with views of the river and short walking distance from everything.

Take a good look at this place: they even let you book an electric guitar for your room. You can bring your kids for a mid-term break and join our kids hackathon. So forget about ‘glamping’… You get to stay in the coolest hotel in town, with breakfast included, a stone’s throw from the festival and have fun with the whole family.

Scandinavian prices, you ask? Wait for it - it will cost you less than a regular city hostel! We have secured special Music Tech Fest rates for the dates of the festival at around £38 per night for a room all to yourself, or £26 if you want to share with a mate (current exchange rates). The large, glamorous rooms that can fit up to three people are £70 per night.

We made sure that if you want to come a week early (from May 22) or leave a week later (to June 7) the rates will still apply, so you can visit the unique Guitars Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, Kulturväven, the Women’s History Museum, the Umedalens Sculpture Park… tour the stunning landscapes of Northern Sweden, or simply hang out in the local cafés and bars with the students and the locals (pretty much everyone here is in a band).

To book U&Me by Snøhetta, go to http://umehotel.se/en, insert your dates, click the +more button, add the number of adults, and the code MUSICTECH for a major discount.

If you are part of the MTF London community, scheduled flights with SAS (Heathrow) or quality, mid-range flights with Norwegian (Gatwick) are highly recommended. An easy change-over at Stockholm Arlanda and a short one-hour onward flight will land you right on our doorstep (10 mins door-to-door). Budget flights from London Stansted land one hour’s drive away… let us know if you’re planning to fly Ryanair and how big your party is, because you’ll probably need rescuing!

Look forward to seeing you at #MTFScandi in Umeå, Sweden.
