In addition to the Labs, MTF ran a Trackathon, led by electronic music pioneer Graham Massey (808 State). Participants were challenged to incorporate AI-generated sounds trained on traditional Russian folk singing into their compositions and put complex rhythms to the fore to find new ways of moving the human body through music.

TRACKATHON
18-19 OCTOBER 2019
Örebro University
At MTF Örebro, Graham Massey of 808 State led a 24-hour challenge to break the standard 4/4 pop song grid, bring rhythm to the fore and move the human body in new ways. He provided his own unique percussive samples, as well as some sounds created by an AI neural network algorithm trained on traditional Russian folk singing. The music production students (and guests) at Örebro University formed teams and got to work - and the results were incredible.
